Emily Ryan, LICSW

Hi, I’m Emily. I am so glad you found your way to this website. In choosing the image and design for our website I was drawn to the imperfections in the background, the cracks in the wall, and the new growth shooting to light. We all have imperfections, wounds, scars, mistakes we have made…we all have stuff. Cracks, symbolizing those times when something must give, we can’t hold it all together, and/or we feel as though we might just break.

Whatever that looks like for you, I see a Breaking Through. Like the new growth, a breaking open from old patterns of reacting or maybe striving that does not serve anymore. Old stories that we learned along the way, stories our brain made up to make sense of the world and help us survive, and stories that have been reinforced over time. A breaking open to a new chapter where there is the possibility for growth or space for acceptance to just be you.

Let’s connect to see if we would be a good fit and in what capacity on your wellness journey.

A Little more

I grew up in Mississippi and Louisiana. I enjoyed Tennessee for a brief period before graduate school, and in 2004 I relocated to Alabama where I reside with my spouse and children. Having lived solely in the southeast, there may be areas of culture and diversity in which I am not fully informed. Please know that I will not assume to have you figured out as a client based on what I do know of your culture or identity group. The NASW Code of Ethics upholds me to be culturally competent. My personal goal is to have cultural humility. I will aim to do my best in getting to know you as an individual and will be curious to learn about the culture or group with which you identify. Should a rupture or an unintended micro-aggression occur, please know this is not my heart. I ask that you be open with me as I will be 100% invested in amending any rupture in our therapeutic alliance.

I have worked in the clinical field, including school based therapy, private practice with adults and children, trauma therapy, and school counseling since 2001. I took a brief leave of absence in 2014 to care for my young children. For my own therapy, I began painting as a hobby which led to a new chapter in my story. Other passions include being in nature, cycling, yoga, creating and enjoying live music.

I have a vision of abundance for this space and lots of ideas for resources to better serve you. Stay tuned as things will evolve. This site may change and services may be added or tweaked, so please add your email to our mailing list below. The research is ever growing and with that comes new modalities and opportunity for learning and growth. I look forward to creating a space that will fit your individual needs and aid you in your new chapter.

Warmly,
